ABOUT US
Wrangell is an island community in the inside passage of SE Alaska. The
community is in transition, as the fishing and timber industry it has always relied
on, has been in decline for over a decade.

Wrangell Wellness is a 501c3 non-profit organization and was started through a
grant initiated by Senator Ted Stevens to promote wellness in 16 SE Alaska
communities. Our mission is to support rural Alaska through local, national and
international collaboration, and the sharing of resources in support of 5 primary
categories, General Health Awareness, Education, Substance Abuse Prevention,
and Community Based Research. Our programs focus on wellness, prevention and
cultural sensitivity as a means of developing appropriate physiological and
emotional balance in everyday life situations. This way, potentially serious or acute
issues can be identified, so that the appropriate health care and preventive
measures are implemented at the earliest possible opportunity, increasing the
likelihood of a successful intervention.

We serve people of all Nations, recognizing the importance of cultural sensitivity
and diversity in the development of successful health, educational and social
service programs.
Winter in Wrangell while normally mild can be very long. Oil prices have made it
impossible for all but a few to keep homes heated throughout the winter months.
